Dear Rahul Srivastava and Matias Echanove

I am just coming upon this blog among other sites that you both are involved with. I am so interested in what you are doing. I will say that professionally I am a rookie, however I have an eclectic mix of experiences that are the tools I have access to.
I recently received a Bachelors of Fine Arts, prior to that I spent 7 years volunteering abroad for a non-profit working on many projects that dealt with space rehabilitation.

Much of the work I have been making and using for exploration has been based off of spaces derived from informal settlements and nomadic dwellings. I look at traditions both culturally and materially and find the places that the two meet and use that information to inform the aesthetics.
Late last spring I decided to apply for a Fulbright Fellowship. Since I am not able to attend a graduate program right now I thought this would be a good avenue to further my research. Originally I wanted to propose my research agenda for Lagos, Nigeria. However after 3 months of many emails and no replies I had to abruptly make a switch to another desired location. I then focused on Mumbai. I want to pick up where I have left off with my visual research and take it a step further and research on location how culture and traditions inform space and place and what that means creatively and collectively.
This application is due in the next weeks and after I tailor my proposal to Mumbai from Lagos I need to send that it along with a solid Educational Institution contact. I see that you both are involved with the various sites that I have found the most progressive and akin to my ideas and proposal. If either of you or perhaps another colleague of yours that comes from a Educational Institution is interested in connecting with me please-please contact me immediately at melissaanneturner@gmail.com.
I would love to come and spend 9 month working with your team in Mumbai. I am able to hold workshops for the arts ie: installation, collage, or Photography.
This Fellowship is a great opportunity for the exchange of ideas in an interdisciplinary setting.

I hope to hear from either of you very soon.

Best,

Melissa Turner
